30th anniversary of the Birds Directive (2nd April 1979-2009)

On 2 April 2009, the EU InfoCentre hosted an event aimed at marking the 30th Anniversary of EU's Birds Directive. A panel discussion was organised, upon the initiative of the "Macedonian Ecological Society", in order to promote the EU Directive on the conservation of wild birds (79/409/EEC), commonly known as the Birds Directive (2nd April 1979).

The panel discussion covered topics related to the status, threats and conservation measures of birds in the country as well as to the transposition of this Directive into the national legislation as part of the EU accession process.
