The EU InfoCentre celebrated its 1st birthday!

The EU InfoCentre in Skopje marked one year of existence – its 1st Birthday, with a celebration and small cocktail in its premises on 20 October.

Over the past year, the EU InfoCentre acted as a permanent forum of the Delegation’s and other EU-related events, said Ambassador Erwan Fouéré on this occasion.

He emphasized that all these efforts have been made because not only the country will become an EU member, but its citizens will one day become EU citizens. Well-informed citizens, said Fouéré, are able to better understand the benefits of the accession process, the challenges it will bring, and to have realistic expectations of what lies ahead. The figures below illustrate the work of the Info Centre during its 1st year of existence:

  • More than 120 events
  • More than 5,500 visitors present at the events
  • Many more walk-in visitors asked for publications or specific information
  • Over 25.000 publications disseminated to walk-in visitors, partner organisations and institutions
Being the focal point for distribution of information, the InfoCentre helped in the widening of the EU Information Network - two new EUi-s were opened in Bitola (at University “St Kliment Ohridski”) and Tetovo (“South East European University”), and one new EU Info Point was opened at the National and University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Skopje.

All of the past year activities were undertaken in line with the EU InfoCentre's main objectives: raising awareness about the EU; increasing the knowledge about the EU, its institutions, bodies and mechanisms; addressing the information needs of specific interest groups and stakeholders; encouraging public debates on issues related to the EU accession; spreading the word about the fundamental values of the EU; supporting professionals and researchers; co-operation and exchange of information with other EU Information Centers.
